As part of the BVA’s mandate to get Bermuda’s youth more involved in Volleyball, the BVA are sponsors of an annual Male & Female High School Player of the Year Award Scholarship.

The award consists of a trophy and a $1,000 bursary to attend an overseas volleyball camp of their choice.

After each regular season volleyball game the opposing coach votes for the best player on the other team. At the end of the season the votes are tallied and the player with the most votes is awarded the High School Player of the Year.

If the player of the year is a senior, the scholarship will be awarded to the non-senior player with the most votes so they can bring the skills and knowledge they learned at the camp back to help their team the following season.

For 2008, the Male HSPY was Ian Bucci, but since he was a senior the scholarship was awarded to Brian Amaro. The Female HSPY was Kristen Heyliger but since she was a senior the scholarship was awarded to Ryanne Bardgett.
